During the overnight hours of Sunday, 12/15/2019, in to Monday, 12/16/2019, numerous vehicles were entered throughout Mount Penn Borough and Lower Alsace Township from Fairview Avenue near the Reading City line all the way to the Pennside area on George Street. The Central Berks Regional Police Department took a total of 14 reports from residents who stated their vehicles had been entered. In almost all of the reports, the actor forcibly entered the vehicle by smashing a window or by prying the door away from the frame. Also in nearly all of the reports, valuable items (for example - purse, wallet, cash, electronics, etc.) were stolen that had been left in the vehicle. Video obtained from victims show the suspect in the Pennside area at approximately 3:22 AM. The attached photographs are of the suspect, however, they are not detailed enough for identification purposes.
Please be advised that we are working to identify the actor. Additionally, our patrol officers are aware of this recent rash of vehicle break-ins and they will be out there attempting to deter this from happening or, hopefully, catching the individuals responsible. In the meantime, we ask all residents to please make sure your vehicles are locked, especially during the overnight hours. Please do not leave valuables in your vehicle, especially in direct view from outside your vehicle - this is what tempts thieves to forcibly enter your vehicle. If you see anyone suspicious around your vehicle or attempting to gain access to your vehicle, you should call 911 right away.
