On 05/25/2022 at approximately 2357 hours, one of our Douglass Township Police officers observed a suspicious subject walking along Benjamin Franklin Highway. Approximately 25-30 minutes prior there was a report of a burglary in progress where the actor was a W/M who left on foot in Amity Township. Knowing this information, the on-duty officer conducted a mere encounter on this subject. During the officer's investigation, it was discovered that the male had nothing to do with the burglary call. The male provided his name and date of birth as Peter J. Beard. Beard was run through the NCIC/CLEAN system and showed him to be wanted by Pennsylvania State Police, Reading Barracks for Rape charges, and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department on a probation violation.
State Police confirmed the warrant and Beard was taken into custody by the on-duty officer and transported to the Berks County Central Processing Center.
