On Thursday, March 10th, 2022 at approximately 2105 hours, Officers from the Douglass Township Police Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Ben Franklin Highway and Quarry Rd. The initial caller stated that the driver of a white honda civic was attempting to back their vehicle up and leave. Officers arrived on location and observed a black GMC pickup with minor damage to the rear bumper and a white honda civic with heavy front-end damage. Upon further investigation, the officers came to the conclusion that the black GMC pickup was stopped at a red light when it was rear-ended by the white honda civic. While speaking with the driver of the white honda civic officers observed the odor of alcohol on his breath. The driver was identified as Jeremy Jones Jefferson. It was also determined that Jefferson was operating the vehicle DUI Suspended. Jefferson was put through a battery of Standard Field Sobriety Tests in which he showed that he was incapable of safely driving a motor vehicle. Jefferson was placed into custody and transported to Berks County Central Processing where he refused a breath test. Jefferson is being charged with DUI and other related traffic offenses.
