On July 14, 2021 at 6:43 A.M., the Robeson Township Police Department received a call for a (1) one vehicle accident along the 400 Block of Cedar Hill Road. Upon arrival, a vehicle was located resting on the driver's side. Through interaction with the operator, the Robeson Township officer as well as other first responders suspected that the operator was under the influence of a controlled substance. The operator was transported by ambulance to Tower Health (Reading Hospital) for treatment. Prior to the officer responding to the Hospital, it was learned that the operator became non-compliant with EMS and made threats against them. West Reading Police responded to the Reading Hospital to assist Hospital Security with the operator as he was acting disorderly. It was then learned that the operator threatened to kill hospital staff members, their families and pets.
Upon the arrival of the Robeson officer at the hospital, the male operator refused to submit to the requested blood test to confirm that he was operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of narcotics. The Robeson officer took statements from staff members and requested the response of the Berks County Sheriff's Department to assist in the transport of the defendant, Shane Joseph Delano. Mr. Delano was transported to the Berks County Central Processing Center by Berks County Sheriff Deputies and later charged with Terroristic Treats, DUI, Disorderly Conduct and Driving Vehicle At Safe Speed.
