On May 1, 2022 at approximately 9:02 PM, WRPD Officers were dispatched to a physical domestic situation in the 400 block of South 3rd Avenue. Berks Radio advised that it was reported that a male pushed a pregnant female to the ground and that there was screaming and yelling. Berks Radio also advised that the male was walking up the street. WRPD Officers responded, arrived and located the female victim. The victim pointed to a male walking away from them with another female in the 300 block of South 3rd Avenue and advised that the male was the party involved. The Officers caught up to the male, later identified as Karay Prinice HUDSON, and attempted to stop, him to speak to him about the domestic incident. HUDSON would not cooperate with their requests and would not provide any information to the Officers. After several attempts to verbally get HUDSON to cooperate the Officers then advised HUDSON that he was under investigative detention and attempted to detain him with handcuffs. HUDSON immediately resisted and began to pull away from the Officers. A struggle ensued between the Officers and HUDSON and at that time HUDSON lifted one of the Officers off the ground and threw him over his shoulder and into the street. The other Officer then continued to attempt to take HUDSON into custody and he continued to resist and could not physically be controlled. The Officers then used less-lethal force and were eventually able to gain of control of HUDSON and handcuff him. HUDSON was then searched and a small amount of marijuana was found on his person.
A further investigation revealed that, during the initial domestic incident, HUDSON and the victim entered into an argument. During the argument, HUDSON pushed the victim (who is six months pregnant) to the ground and the victim fell to her rear and caught her fall with her elbows. HUDSON then struck the victim several times in the head with a closed fist.
HUDSON was transported to be arraigned for the listed charges filed before the District Justice.
Due to HUDSON's actions, the female victim sustained an abrasion to her elbow and one WRPD Officer sustained a broken elbow.
