NEW UPDATE!!! Penn Avenue Re-Paving Project set to begin in the Borough
UPDATED 09/14/2020... NEW START DATE... Please see the below updated information.
As you may be aware, Penn Avenue is currently subject to a re-paving and repair project. To date this project has mostly been taking place West of the Borough, moving towards West Reading.
On or about 9/16/2020, the West Reading Borough portion of the project will begin. Work will be done during evening and overnight hours, and will require both traffic lane and parking restrictions. The project will have traffic safety personnel (flaggers) on scene while work is being conducted. The parking restrictions will affect the entire length of Penn Avenue within the Borough. "No Parking" signs will be posted along Penn Avenue, in a manner similar to when events are held. As in the past, the WRPD will make every effort to contact the owners of vehicles parked on Penn Avenue when the restrictions begin, but vehicles parked on Penn Avenue during restricted times (6 PM to 6 AM Sunday nights through Thursday nights pending weather and field conditions) are subject to citation and removal via tow.
Parking remains available within the West Reading Shopping Center at 525 Penn Avenue in the numbered spaces for $1 per hour. Payment can be made at either kiosk near the Penn Ave entrance, or via app.
Both the WRPD and the contractor recognize that these are unprecedented times and will make every effort to mitigate the effects this project has on residents, businesses and visitors.
Please see the attached picture or PDF attachment on this post for specific information on the project, the hours of work and traffic and parking restrictions.
Please contact the WRPD with any questions.
