On October 16th Officer DUNLAP, while on night shift patrol, interrupted a commercial burglary to the Kwik N Kleen Car Wash located at 103 Morview Blvd. As he pulled onto the parking lot he located two individuals hiding behind the dumpsters on the lot. As he approached, they fled on foot leading him on a short chase. The subjects briefly alluded him, but he ultimately was able to locate and detain them with the assistance of Brecknock and Robeson Twp Police Departments.
After a search of the area they were hiding in, the chief and detective located numerous items hidden by the suspects to include burglary tools, and clothing worn during the course of numerous burglaries.
Detective EBERLY had been called in to assist as well as a detective from Bern Township and during questioning these subjects, who were identified as Nathan CONARD and Jenna BELCHER, admitted to coming to the car wash with the intent of cutting the locks off of the coin operated machines and stealing the money. They also admitted to committing similar thefts in Bern Township and Adamstown in Lancaster County.
Their vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant.
Both subjects were arrested and taken to the Berks County Sheriff’s for processing and arraignment.
The investigation is still on-going.
