Criminal investigations

The West Reading Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) serves the citizens of West Reading Borough as the primary investigative unit for all major case incidents occurring within our Borough.

The members of the WRPD CID consists of a two (2) full-time criminal investigators.  The investigators are some of the most experienced officers in the department and they receive an extensive amount of training in the area of criminal investigations. CID is responsible for the follow-up investigations of crimes. As such, they use a variety of investigative tools which include, but are not limited to, the use of forensic evidence, search warrants, court orders, and social media.

Our CID is one of the busiest in Berks County and works closely with other investigative agencies at the Federal, State and Local levels in the investigation of criminal activity and the prosecution of criminal offenders.  Some of the investigators are cross designated as County Detectives by the Berks County District Attorney’s Office. This enables the investigators to work on cases that may go outside the boundaries of West Reading Borough and into other municipalities.

Some investigators are also assigned to the Berks County District Attorney’s Office Major Crimes Task Force and/or Drug Task Force. As part of these task forces, they can assist either County Detectives or other municipal agency’s with investigations.
