Follow-up on our New CrimeWatch Labs Program

The West Reading Police Department is committed to transparency and community engagement. As part of our efforts to keep you informed, we'd like to follow-up on our post from yesterday which introduced our New CrimeWatch Labs Program.  We would also like to further explain some of the key activities our Officers engage in to keep our community safe.

Crime Mapping

Our crime mapping tool allows you to view and track crime incidents in your neighborhood or across the borough. This interactive map provides a visual representation of reported crimes, helping you stay informed about what's happening in your community. To access crime mapping on our Crimewatch page, follow these steps:

  1. Visit our website at www.westreadingpolice.com.
  2. Click on the "Crime Map" button in the top right corner of our home page or the "quick link" button below our slideshow.
  3. Select the date range you'd like to view (up to 30 days).
  4. Choose the type of crime you're interested in viewing (e.g., theft, vandalism, etc.).
  5. Zoom in on the map to view specific locations and details about each incident.

Officer-Initiated Activities

Our Officers engage in various activities to proactively address crime and maintain public safety. Two key initiatives that appear in crime mapping and our blotter report:

  • Checks: These are business checks and security checks conducted by our Officers to ensure the safety and security of local businesses and properties.  They also include traffic checks that focus on maintaining traffic and pedestrian safety.
  • Patrols: Our Officers conduct directed, foot, and bicycle patrols to maintain a visible presence in the community, deter criminal activity, and engage with residents.

The Monthly Activity Report

This report is a monthly summary of incidents reported to the West Reading Police Department. It provides a more concise overview of police activity, including:

  • Incident types (e.g., theft, vandalism, disturbance)
  • Locations and times of incidents
  • Brief descriptions of each incident
  • The Blotter Report is available on our website and is updated monthly in PDF format.  Please see last month's report attached to this post. We encourage you to stay informed about police activity in your community by regularly checking the report.

By staying informed and engaged, we can work together to build a safer and more connected community. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us
